In 2023, the Bangladeshi romantic action film "Priyotoma" took the stage, directed by Himel Ashraf and produced by Arshad Adnan for Versatile Media. The late Faruk Hossain crafted the story, while Himel Ashraf collaborated on the screenplay and dialogues. Shakib Khan played Sumon, the protagonist, in this tragic love story that forever altered his life. Idhika Paul, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Lutfur Rahman George took on pivotal roles, joined by Elina Shammi, Don, and Shiba Shanu.
Shakib Khan had announced the film in 2017 under his production, and after six years, the principal photography commenced on May 8, 2023, concluding on June 21, 2023. The film's first look debuted on June 2, 2023, though no trailer was released. Censor clearance was obtained on June 22, 2022. Dhaka, Sylhet, and Sunamganj served as primary filming locations, with occasional shoots in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban. The musical score featured compositions by Akassh, Prince Mahmud, and Sajid Sarker, while Saiful Sahin handled cinematography, Baba Yadav choreographed, and Simit Ray Antor edited.
"Priyotoma" made waves at the box office, setting records as the fastest-grossing film in the history of Bangladeshi cinema. It claimed the title of the highest-grossing Bangladeshi film of 2023 and the overall highest-grossing Bangladeshi film to date. Notably, it surpassed Shakib Khan's 2008 blockbuster "Priya Amar Priya" as the pinnacle of his cinematic career. The film earned nine awards, including Best Actor and Best Actress, in the Special Honors category at the 22nd Babisas Awards in 2023.
